With its inception in 1988, Prayas JAC society with its headquarters in Delhi, a unique collaborative effort that started as a partnership between Delhi Police, Delhi School of Social work (DU) and Shramik Vidyapeeth with four orphan children out of devastating fire at Jahangirpuri, New Delhi, has emerged as a leading, nationally and internationally reputed organization, has successfully rendered two decades of continuous service to marginalized, disadvantaged and underprivileged children of India. Development of integrated and holistic programme, multi-pronged strategies, forging of alternative models through experimentation and exploration of new ideas, combining grass-root work with macro level advocacy activities and reaching out for children and the marginalized communities in most difficult circumstances where other organizations hesitate to tread are the features that define Prayas operational, location and knowledge building strategies. Prayas is essentially an accountable and transparent organization rooted in the dictum that the best interest of the child has to be protected. From crisis outreach services to final rehabilitation of children with their families is very important for us.

At present the organization looks after 50,000 beneficiaries including deprived children, women and youth through its 227 Community-based Centers across Seven states of India viz Gujarat, Assam, Haryana, Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, and the Tsunami affected islands of Andaman and Nicobar. There are comprehensive program that focuses on the most vulnerable categories of children in need of care and protection and their integration into mainstream society like education, vocational training, Health Care & Nutrition, Crisis Interventions, Child helpline and interventions against child neglect, abuse and exploitation of children, such as, physical, emotional, economic and sexual besides trafficking, child labor, Juvenile justice etc.

Prayas shelter home for boys and girls, provides them with secure environment as they come from abusive environment. It also helps in restoring them to their biological families/adoptive families and prepares them for productive and value based adulthood. It lays emphasis on care and support for socio-economic rehabilitation of children coming from marginalized sector of society. It provides all institutional services like education, vocational training, nutrition, medical care, psychological interventions like counseling, home visits, which are vital for holistic rehabilitation of the child.

To carry on these activities for the children and communities which must take our first call, Prayas requires a sizeable amount of funds which are partially covered by national and international organizations, government and non-government bodies, corporate and charitable business besides individual donors like you.
