* Began with a contact point catering to the need of 25 children in Jahangirpuri.
* Today operates 21 different projects in various communities of Delhi serving approximately 50,000 Neglected, Street and Working Children.
* Accredited by Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India to run the National Institute of Open Schooling Programme for 300 street and working children.
* Quality alternative education model is being implemented in six states/ UTs. These includes Delhi, Bihar, Gujarat, Assam, Haryana, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, reaching out to more than 10,000 children both rural and urban areas.
* Department of Elementary Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and the United States Department of Labour recognized our alternative education model for replication in the Transitional Education Centres (TECs) under INDUS project. Prayas is a member of the Government of Delhi’s Child Labour Rehabilitation –cum- Welfare Society.
* Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan, Prayas has been designated one of the bridge NGOs and district-in-charge in Delhi for providing elementary education to out-of-school children between the ages of 6 and 14. Prayas is running 75 such learning centers.
Imparts vocational skills education through its 17 centers in 40 trades including computers, screen-printing, candle making, hand and machine embroidery, auto repair etc.
* Kalasrishti Prayas is a media advocacy group comprising more than 1000 children from various Prayas shelter homes and communities. It provides a platform for street and working children to express their ideas through street plays, songs and dances.
* Reaches out to 50,000 street and working children through its health services.
* Is an active member of NGO Forum of Street and working children of Delhi, Anti- Trafficking network
* Provided shelter and rehabilitation to over 180 girls through the Shelter Home for Girls, most of having been trafficked at some point of time.
* Provides institutional care facilities to nearly 1000 children at a point of time through Jahangirpuri Children’s Home for Boys, Prayas Observation Home for boys. Shelter home for girls, Shelter Home for railway based street children at Lahori Gate, Night shelters in different parts of Delhi.
* International recognition as best practice for anti-trafficking initiatives by the Trafficking in Persons Report, 2006. * Prayas Observation Home recognized as best practice in the Juvenile Justice System in South Asia for implementation of the Juvenile Justice System.
* New Delhi Railway Station in collaboration with Railway Protection Force (RPF) for children migrating from the adjoining states of Delhi in search of good future but landing up in trouble.
* Engaged in policy with contributions to offences against children’s Act, JJ act, ITPA. Member of National Commission for Children, Central Advisory Body for policy formulations to combat human trafficking.
